Pinwheels for Prevention:
Honoring Child Abuse Prevention Month at the Washington State Capitol
On March 28th, FESS joined community members, advocates, and state leaders in planting pinwheels at the Washington State Capitol in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month. The annual event, held near the Tivoli fountain, served as a powerful reminder of every child’s right to a safe and joyful childhood, free from harm and full of opportunity.
The Pinwheels for Prevention campaign, launched in 2008 by Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA), established the pinwheel as a national symbol of childhood hope and happiness. The movement has encouraged communities to take action in preventing child abuse and neglect by promoting positive family support, education, and awareness. Each pinwheel planted represented a commitment to building a world where children are protected, nurtured, and empowered to thrive.
FESS staff and friends of FESS, alongside Executive Director Shelly Willis, proudly participated in planting pinwheels, reinforcing our 25-year mission of strengthening families and preventing child abuse across Washington. By coming together and raising awareness, the community took meaningful steps toward ensuring the well-being of every child.
