April is nationally recognized as Child abuse Prevention Month. Our Pinwheels of Hope campaign uses a simple child’s toy to remind us that we all play an important role in children’s lives.
What is Pinwheels of Hope?
April is Child Abuse Prevention month.
This initiative uses pinwheels – a timeless symbol for childhood – to represent its campaign.
In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America declared the pinwheel as the national symbol for child abuse prevention through the campaign, Pinwheels for Prevention. Pinwheels symbolize the notions of playfulness, joy, and childhood. It serves as a reminder of the great childhoods we want for all children. The cyclical nature of the pinwheel depicts positive cycles of love and support we want to help families create.
Raise awareness and financially support our communities to enforce safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments for children and families to thrive. Pinwheels is a reminder that it is not enough to respond to child abuse and neglect – we must build and support strong families through community engagement, programs, and policies. This movement works toward developing communities that are healthy, safe, and nurturing for all children and all families.
Lastly, please join us in turning your home, office, and the community blue by planting a pinwheel garden and by participating in Wear Blue Day on April 1. Wear Blue Day helps kick-off the month with support for preventing child abuse and neglect.
